It is national poetry writing month, otherwise known as napowrimo. I try to push myself to write a poem a day and this year I am also going to attempt to post them here. As the month progresses, this gets harder and harder, but we will see how 2017 unfolds.

Here is my creation for day 2. Writing prompts can be found on the napowrimo.com website.

simmer down
(C) 2017 by margaux delotte-bennett

over low heat
my body simmers
filled with what is essential
in this moment
under these times

hope
angst
an overflowing measure of thanks
a pinch of spit
a cup of indignant
rounded tablespoons of swoon
(it is never too soon
to fall in love with love,
on repeat)
a dab of retreat
for when I’ve given enough
a baker’s dozen of poems
some righteous
some fluff

over a low heat
my body simmers
filled and filling
for living and telling
