in my city

there are streets in my city
that exhibit a unique charm
a charm so unique that a block away
it’s gone

the arched doorways
with iron fashioned into
blooming flowers mid sway
ivy trimmed facades in constant climb

abruptly transitions into food marts
and check cashing places where people pay
and foil wrapper lined streets
neighbors constantly at odds

what is the urban plan
when divides by race and class
also determine
how frequently they come and
pick up your trash?

whether your block is quaint or not
in my city
it can still be hot.
