i typed this out on my phone and when i went to add the picture, it all disappeared.

wow.

so here it is again.

i have been playing with poetic forms these days. the first poem is a series of tanka (5/7/5/7/7 syllables) and the second poem is a series of haiku (5/7/5 syllables). I wrote an additional poem today, but that will be shared at a later date.

i hope that you are also having a poetry rich month!

measured existence

we are the women
who have letters and degrees
experiences
filling space and taking time
where children and mates could be

we are also she
who can pick up and explore
putting her needs first
fulfilling her own visions
living a life fully free

we were never told
our choices would be reviewed
and measured in light
of what she could and should do
by them as well as us too

let’s pause for a quick fashion interlude. this is a self portrait taken at the tidal basin with my new socks…
cherry blossom sox

and now back to poetry!

there’s a certain way
the petals dance on the wind
Japan’s legacy

a sweet reminder
to plant beautiful things now
gifts for tomorrow

my simple prayer
is to always remember
past gifts reaped today

I plant this poem
on the backs of pink petals
free to catch the wind
