(you may or may not have noticed that my untitled poems are numbered based on the date they were written. this is something i came up with during this challenge… i like it!)

untitled #41311
(c) 2011 by margaux delotte-bennett

under the layers
and between
what might be found?
who lurks in this realm
free of fear
full of rage
split open from end to end?

i wonder
because i often wander
away from this space
where scabs are picked
wounds weep
i lie with my heart open and bleeding
and there is no laughter here
and there is no touch

there is only under the layers
and between
cold fingers
poised to protect
that which was once warm
and teeming with life
