i had a rough thursday evening (drama at work). this little piece helped me heal/ cope/ release…

standing water (c) 2011 margaux delotte-bennett

“you can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water”

Rabindranath Tagore

you stand
at the water’s edge
wide mouth laugh as the cold bubbles
pop and sometimes roll
across your toes

you are caught in this fleeting moment
of mirth
smaller than a wee grain of sand
at the depth of the sea
which stretches out
glittering
before you

cresting waves rise up and break
for your attention

seagulls scream
while they glide between you
and the sun
and you again

the far off shore
which cannot be seen
but is known to contain
more than here
beckons
pleads
longs for your foot fall
exploring that land

but you
at the water’s edge
stand stock still and wait
for the next bubble
to
pop
